What is Kokko?

Kokko

Kokko (こっこ) is

a confectionery made from sugar, eggs, flour and fats.

It is produced by Mihomi Co. in Suruga-ku, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is known as a speciality confectionery, a famous Shizuoka confectionery and a souvenir of Shizuoka.

The palm-sized, round-shaped steamed cake is filled with special milk cream.

In addition to the standard plain flavour, there are also strawberry kokko, made by kneading strawberry sauce made by boiling down Shizuoka’s famous red hot peas with sugar into the dough; matcha kokko, made by kneading matcha into the dough and covering it with milk cream and red beans; chocolate banana kokko, made by kneading cocoa and cacao into the dough and filling it with banana cream. The Banana Kokko is made with banana cream and white chocolate as a secret ingredient, while the web-only Kokko Gold is made with eggs from the Nagoya Cochin breed of chicken.
